Lindenhurst Historical Society holiday events
The quarterly meeting of the Lindenhurst Historical Society will be held Sun., Dec. 7, 2 p.m. in the Lindenhurst main Firehouse on S. Wellwood Avenue next to the museum.
The program after the business meeting will be human interest stories of holidays celebrated from 1918 to 1998 taken from the New York Times and other local newspapers by decades. Displays of Stieff teddy bears manufactured in Lindenhurst at the time will also be presented. The Village Board will be serving hot cider and holiday cookies.
The museum next door will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. for guided tour. In addition from 3 to 5 p.m. youngsters will be permitted to skate around the plaza at Hoffman and S. Wellwood Avenues. Hot roasted chestnuts will be toasting and sitributed by Kiwanis Club members. Hot cocoa will be available.
A pianist will be playing songs of the holidays to sing along to, 4 to 5 p.m. The St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Senior Choir will also be entertaining during this period.
At approximately 5 p.m. the tree lighters selected by the Lindenhurst Historical Society will be introduced and will light the tree. This year the lighters are Ellen and Anthony Cromarty.
