Today's news, Nov. 30: Police arrest 11 in sobriety driving check

Nine men and two women were arrested and charged by Suffolk County with driving while intoxicated or impaired between 11:125 p.m., Nov. 28 and 3 a.m. Nov. 30. The arrests were part of a sobriety checkpoint program along Montauk Highway at Great East Neck Road in West Babylon. The operation was conducted to help prevent injuries and fatalities associated with driving while intoxicated, particularly at the start of the holiday season, said a police spokesman. A total of 541 vehicles went through the checkpoint. Those arrested for Driving While Intoxicated were: •Maureen Fitzpatrick, 50, of 30 East Drive, Copiague •John Heron, 60, of 824 South Bay Street, Lindenhurst •Brian Muir, 22, of 37 East Seacrest Avenue, Lindenhurst •Bartolomiej Stepien, 19, of 190 Lafayette Street, Copiague •Dennis Vesik, 56, of 96 West Broadway, West Babylon •Richard Burdish, 47, of 16 Garfield Place, Lindenhurst • Dylan Watt, 21, of 149 Locust Avenue, Babylon •Patrick Bell, 19, of 17 Evelyn Road, West Islip Arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs were: •Keith Gillespie, 40, of 12 Crane Road, Rocky Point •Joanna Miltenberger, 20, of 5 Mountain Street, Ronkonkoma •Sean Marron, 18, of 164 Keswick Avenue, East Islip Marron was additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree, and criminal possession of marijuana 5th degree. Gillespie was additionally charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. All those arrested were processed and will be held for arraignment at First District Court, Central Islip, on Saturday morning, November 29, 2008.
