Babylon students know that Little Steps Make a Big Difference

In an effort to show their support for 'going green' and the importance of health and wellness, Babylon Elementary School students and staff members participated in the International Walk to School program this October.

Forgoing traditional transportation options (including buses and cars), more than 380 students (93 percent of the school), with the help of their parents, walked to school as part of this global event and worked to bring forth permanent change in communities across the globe. As the walkers approached the school they were not only met by the smiling faces of the school's faculty but also the sounds of some walking tunes, including Johnny Cash's I Walk the Line.

"It was a really great opportunity for our students to come together as a community and work toward creating a healthier tomorrow," stated Principal Dana Spincola. "I was really thrilled and a bit overwhelmed at how successful the program was. It is definitely moments like these that once again prove how great the families and staff

at Babylon Elementary School are." Prior to their walk to school, the students created colorful sneaker necklaces in their art classes and a beautiful large poster of the globe, which was filled with artwork and reasons why they felt it important to participate in the program. Upon arriving at the school, the

students were given a commemorative sticker for walking and congratulated by physical education teacher Rob Andrews, who coordinated the program with Spincola.
