St. John the Baptist DHS seniors achieve honors in Advanced Placement Program and National Merit Scholarship Program
These 30 seniors achieved AP Scholar level: Meghan Allen, Kathryn Beleckas, Theresa Boyle, Katherine Brennan, Patrick Brophy, Tori Caruso, Stefanie Cilmi, Simon Cleary, Briar Cromartie, Nicholas Crovello, Stephen De Leon, Jennifer Fiorillo, Kacie Forker, Stephanie Griffin, Danielle Guilfoil, Kerry Hamilton, Colin Hughes, Emily Izzo, Colleen Jaskot, Cathryn Kiernan, Emily McFadden, Ross Meneses, Nicholas Miloscia, Brianna O'Neil, Erin O'Reilly, Erin Quinn, Celeste Scollan, Stefania Sokolowski, Devon Walsh and Dana Watkins Thirty-five students in the senior class at St. John's in West Islip have achieved Honors or Scholar status in the Advanced Placement Testing Program and more are expected to advance to the next Honors level once the May 2009 AP tests are administered and scored. Principal, Walter D. Lace stated, "These students have taken the most rigorous exams offered to secondary school students across the nation and have excelled. In addition, nine of our seniors have distinguished themselves as Commended Scholars in the National Merit Program! Academically focused and motivated to do their best and be challenged by their studies at every opportunity, all of these students are clearly preparing themselves now for bright futures and promising careers." According to Guidance Director Donald Kachuba, "Many of these students have taken the Advanced Placement courses and exams as Sophomores and Juniors and have scored a minimum of three on at least three exams, or in the case of the Honors level, have scored an average of at least 3.25 on at least four AP exams." St. John the Baptist currently offers seven AP courses in four disciplines in addition to providing nine college credit courses, offered through St. John's University, Molloy College and Adelphi University.
