Fred Waldron, Babylon Village resident
Babylon Village resident and retired New York City Transit bus driver Frederick Ronald Waldron died October 17, 2008. He was 71.
Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Elmont for many years before moving to Amityville in 1994. He lived on Village Oaks Lane for 14 years. From 1956 to 1958, Mr. Waldron served as a cook in the U.S. Army based in Fort Benning Georgia and loved to play and watch baseball, according to his wife of 46 years, Helen.
Before his retirement, he drove buses for Metropolitan Transit Authority based in the Fresh Pond Road bus depot in Ridgewood, Queens. In his spare time, he loved to watch boxing and play golf.
He was known by two nicknames: "Whitey" for his whitish-blonde hair when he was younger, and Ronnie as his mother called him. She had to officially name him Fredrick because he needed a saint's name to be baptized in the Catholic Church but always favored Ronnie.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Waldron leaves behind his children: Ronnie and his wife Donna of Elmont, Karen and her husband Vinny of Plainview and Deborah of Commack; his grandchildren: Michael, Kristen, Lauren, Christopher, Caitlin, Julia, Danielle, Jessica and Jenna.
He reposed at the Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home, Babylon Village. A Funeral Mass was said on October 15, 2008 in St. Joseph's R.C. Church followed by interment in the Long Island National Cemetery at Pinelawn.
