Called "The Stratosphere Hangar Proposal," a thorough Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) environmental assessment (EA) is available for public review on a plan that calls for a new state-of-the-art hangar to be located on the site of the former Davidson building at Republic Airport and adjacent to Talon Air's existing aviation complex.

The project is being proposed by Stratosphere Development Company, which shares common ownership with Talon Air. It would consist of one 53,999 square foot building including 29,999 square feet of hangar area and 24,000 square feet of support area of some 3.58 acres on the south side of the airport. The proposal also calls for site improvement including a new parking area to accommodate 139 vehicles.

The environmental assessment has been prepared to meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act and is available for public review and comment. Copies of the EA are at local libraries and at 7150 Republic Airport, Room 216, East Farmingdale, New York.

Comments may be sent to the Airport address between now and November 10, 2008.

An aviation center since 1927, Republic Airport remains a full partner in Long Island's economy. It provides over 900 full-time jobs on and off airport grounds and generates over $140 million in economic activity including wages and goods and services purchased including fuel, ground handling, landing fees and catering. It has been cited by the Association for a Better Long Island (ABLI) as one of the top ten economic "multipliers" in the region, creating an "air bridge" to global markets and new investment.
