United Methodist Church features artists at art show
On Friday evening, Nov. 7 and Sat., Nov. 8 , the First United Methodist Church, Amityville will host its annual Fine Arts Exhibition and Sale, featuring works by Long Island artists. The show was initiated in 2002 in conjunction with the church's celebration of its 210th anniversary and has grown in popularity each successive year. The show provides a setting that celebrates and supports the creative talents of Long Island artists, and an opportunity for the community to purchase original art at reasonable prices.
This year the church will feature two local artists, Marija LaSalde and Nancy Wernersbach.
LaSalde has a degree in fine arts from Pratt Institute and a masters in art education with additional studies at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
LaSalde seeks to provide solace in her paintings. "If I can offer a safe haven for people through my paintings - that fulfills me."
Refreshing, happy and calming are the words admirers and collectors often use to describe Wernersbach's artwork. Her nature-inspired oil and watercolor paintings have been described as "windows to the outdoors" and create quiet spaces and beautiful places for viewers to enjoy wherever they are displayed.
Since graduating from Southampton College of Long Island University in Southampton, in 1981 with a B.F.A. degree, Wernersbach has been busy exhibiting, selling and winning awards for her artwork in juried art exhibits and at galleries and cultural centers.
A festive reception honoring the artists will be held Fri., Nov. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The exhibit continues on Sat., Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. .
The church is located on Route 110, one block north of the intersection of Route 110 and Merrick Road. (Rt. 27A). For information, call 631 264- 0152, or email:amitychurch@verizon. net.
