Supervisor Nolan seeks volunteer tutors
Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan recently announced that the South Shore Community Organization, one of the Town of Islip Youth Bureau's contract agencies, is seeking volunteer tutors to provide homework assistance and tutoring for students in grades K-12. These services are being offered at no cost, on the basis of the availability of volunteer tutors.
Volunteer opportunities vary depending on the amount of training and experience. Teachers, as well as student teachers and retired teachers, are especially needed. Also welcome are community members with some tutoring experience, college students, parents, high school students, and community club and organization members. Volunteer tutors are needed for sites servicing the school districts of Islip, East Islip, Connetquot and Sayville, and the Town of Islip portions of Bayport-Blue Point, Sachem and Hauppauge.
"I cannot stress enough the importance of having educational assistance available to students," stated
students who may be struggling with their grades a fighting chance, but it also enables residents to give back to their community by volunteering their time."
The Town of Islip invites students, educators, professionals and community members to be part of this important youth enrichment program. All tutoring and homework assistance activities are carefully supervised and provided free of charge. For further information about volunteering as an individual or group, please call the South Shore Community Organization at 277-1365 or the Islip Youth Bureau at 224-5320.
