Babylon 11-year-olds LL players sweep opening weekend games
Babylon Little Leaguers, on the field and ready to play. The Babylon 11 year-old Fall Ball team started their first weekend of baseball going 2-0 on September 20 and 21. The team is playing in the 11-12 year old division of the North Babylon Fall Baseball League. In the opener, Babylon defeated Brentwood by a score of 10-0. Leadoff hitter Joey Savastano led the offense with 3 hits and scoring 3 runs. Dillon Kelly, Spencer Meyerson and Jack Faccibene added 2 hits each. It was a total team effort on offense as every player either had a hit or scored a run. On the mound, Spencer Meyerson and Kevin Blau combined on a 1 hit shutout as both boys continued their great pitching where they left off in the summer. Spencer struck out 8 of the 9 batters he faced while Kevin struck out 3. The defense was flawless as Zach Carmody, Jack Faccibene and Ryan Mathews all made terrific plays. Spencer Howard ended the game with a double play at 2nd base.
In their 2nd game, the team defeated West Islip 12-1 on a picture perfect sunny Sunday. Joey Savastano,
Spencer Meyerson, Zach Carmody and Spencer Howard all had 2 hits for Babylon. Babylon scored 9 runs in the first inning and coasted the rest of the way. Carmody, Meyerson and Jack Faccibene all had long doubles for the team as the bats really came alive. Matt Stark had 2 RBI's and Chris Dewey had 2 runs scored and added an RBI. Dillon Kelly and Nick Crawford combined for another stellar pitching effort. Dillon pitched 3 innings striking out 7 batters. Nick finished
off the game with 1 inning pitched, getting infield help from Ryan Mathews, Mike Carlson and Chris Dewey. . "It was a great way to start the Fall season" said Manager Ricky Young.
