Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan, shown third from right, and the Islip Town Board recently attended a street renaming ceremony in Brentwood to dedicate a street sign to the first Long Island soldier to perish while serving his county in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Raheen Tyson Heighter.
Supervisor Nolan spoke to the friends and family gathered about Cpl. Heighter's sacrifice, saying "This is the flesh and blood where a supreme sacrifice comes to life. This street dedication will serve as a permanent reminder of his life for those who drive by." Raheen's mother, Cathy Heighter, center, whose family has a long history in the neighborhood, also spoke, saying, "I thought it was really nice to know that [the Town] continues to honor the sacrifice he's made."
