Antonio Martinez, D, C, I, WF Babylon Town Candidates
Councilman
Martinez, a naturalized citizen since 1997, grew up in Lynbrook and graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta. He is a union organizer with the Empire State Regional Council of Carpenters where he has dealt with issues important to working families for 15 years, he said. Martinez lived in Deer Park and now Wheatley Heights. He has three children, Zachery 15, Tomas 6, and Nicholas 4. As for being the first Hispanic to serve on the Town Board, Martinez said he is proud of that, but that his focus is on representing all of the interest of the people of the Town.
Martinez was appointed to the Town Board this year
upon the resignation of Carol Quirk, who became Town Clerk. He is seeking his first elected term on the board and says he is looking forward to working with the Bellone administration, which he has long admired, and for the people of the Town of Babylon.
Barone has lived in Babylon for 40 years, is married and has two children. He and his family currently reside in Lindenhurst. He is a Lindenhurst High School graduate and graduate of SUNY Farmingdale.
Joe Barone, R He is the owner and operator of a local business, The Sign Guys, which manufactures signs. He is a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C. Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society.
A member of the Mayor's Beautification Society in Lindenhurst and former member of the Lindenhurst Village Two Family Review Board, Barone currently serves as
Deputy Chairman of the Lindenhurst Village Zoning Board
of Appeals. He is also a longtime CYO basketball and Suffolk
HTB flag football coach. He is running, he said, to bring an independent voice to the Town Board.
Town Clerk
Carol A. Quirk was born and raised in Queens, a graduate of Bayside High School. She and her husband Jim moved to Deer Park in 1966, where they raised three sons, Jimmy, John and Kevin.
As Carol's children grew up she became involved in the Deer Park community, serving the PTA (past president of May Moore Elementary School and the John F. Kennedy School). She has been an active member of the Deer Park High School Booster Club and has served on the Board of
Carol Quirk, D, C, I, WF Directors. In 1999, she was honored as a Life Time member
of the New York State Parent Teachers Association.
Carol has successfully spearheaded a joint effort between fire officials, state and town representatives to take a piece of vacant property overgrown with weeds owned by the Deer Park Fire Department and turned it into a Deer Park Soccer Field of Dreams.
She served as a Babylon Town Councilwoman for two terms and was appointed this year to the administrative post of Town Clerk. She and her husband live in Deer Park and have three children.
Alice Cone, R
Alice T. Cone of North Babylon was named New York State Woman of Distinction and is a 40-year resident of Suffolk County. She has been involved with the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission, the Belmont Lake Civic Association, Catholics of African Ancestry, Resurrection House, and Central Long Island NAACP.
Owen Johnson, R, C, IShe retired from the State University of New York at Old Westbury after 25 years of service and went on to serve as Director of Human Resources and Staff Development at Long Island Head Start. Cone has a Master's Degree in Special Education from Long Island University C.W. Post.
An advocate for the rights of parents and students of the North Babylon School District, Cone has been recognized by numerous organizations for her dedication. She's received the North Babylon Citizen Education Award; the Distinguished Citizen Award; the Harriet Tubman Humanitarian Award, among others.
She and her husband have three children.

4th District
Owen H. Johnson, Republican and resident of the Town of Babylon, was first elected to the Senate in 1972. He attended West Babylon Grade School and Babylon High School. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps, he attended and graduated from Hofstra College in 1956 with a B.A.
degree in history-political science. In December, 1998,
Boyle, R, I, C Senator Johnson was the distinguished recipient of an
Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Hofstra University.
In 2003, Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno appointed Senator Johnson the Chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee. In this key leadership position, Senator Johnson has the lead role in reviewing the Governor's budget proposal and developing the Senate Majority Conference's priorities for the state budget. As Finance Committee Chairman, he also serves as a member of the New York State Public Authorities Control Board and is Co-Chairman of the Legislative Audit Committee.
Additionally, Senator Johnson is Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on the Long Island Marine District; a Commissioner of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission; and Vice-Chair of the Legislative Commission on Government Administration.
The Senator is a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Babylon. He is married and resides with his wife Christel in West Babylon. They have two children — a daughter, Chirsten, and son, Owen.

State Candidates- Assembly
8th District
Assemblyman Boyle was elected in a special election on February 28, 2006. Boyle has served the Assembly from 1994 through 2002.
Boyle graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Political Science and earned a masters degree in Public Administration from Suny at Albany then he went on to Albany Law School and earned a law degree.
Assemblyman Boyle is an advocate for reducing
government spending in Albany. His primary focus is on lowering the tax burden on all New Yorkers especially school and property taxes.
He serves as a member on the Assembly Committee on Codes which to where he led efforts to enhance NY State's use of forensic technology.
Boyle had served as a senior congressional aide in Washington D.C. for over five years which included service as an administrative assistant to former Congressman Rick Lazio.
Andrew Raia, R, I, C He is a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Sierra Club and an active volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician wth the Great River Fire Department.
Elizabeth Bloom grew up in Nassau County until 1983 when she moved to the Town of Islip. She currently resides in West Islip, for the past 14 years, with her husband and two children.
Bloom is an attorney and works for the Unified Court System for the past six yeas as a law clerk to various judges. She also worked with the Community Organization of West Islip Remembers, and volunteered at the Sharing and Caring Soup Kitchen in Babylon.
She is a member of the Nassau County Women's
Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association, and
a Family Court liaison to the Nassau County District Attorney's Task Force on Gang Violence.
9th District
Assemblyman Raia was born and raised in the Town of Huntington. He received his bachelor's degree in political science from the State University of New York in 1991. He is serving his third term as the Assemblyman for the 9th Assembly District.
Karen Kerr-Ozimek, D, WF Over the past three terms Raia has been a member
of the State Assembly Committee on Aging. In 2006, he
was appointed to the position of ranking minority member
of the Assembly Committee on Banks. He also sits on the Assembly's Housing Committee and is actively involved in the development of practical solutions to housing issues.
Raia is also an advocate for children's programs such as the Summer Reading Challenge for middle school students, Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, and the Boy and Girl Scouts.
Karen Kerr-Ozimek graduated from Touro Law School in 1989 and began working as an assistant district attorney in Nassau County for 16 years.
For the past two years she as operated her own law firm in Huntington practicing in both areas of civil and criminal law. Kerr- Ozimek also serves at the appointed Northport Village Prosecutor and an assistant
village attorney. She is working to improve the education
system, school tax budget plan, health care system and environmental policies.

Assemblyman Bob Sweeney is a lifelong resident of the 11th A.D. in Babylon Town. A graduate of Lindenhurst Public Schools, Mr. Sweeney received his Bachelor's degree from Adelphi University and a master of public administration from C.W. Post.
Actively involved in the area of health care, Assemblyman Sweeney has authored legislation dealing with health insurance and care for diabetes, and has also
supported efforts to promote prenatal care for pregnant
women. In 1995, Assemblyman Sweeney received the
National Public Policy Leadership Award from the American Diabetes Association.
As Chairman of the Legislative Commission on Science and Technology, Assemblyman Sweeney sponsored and promoted legislation on genetic testing that established New York State as a leader in developing public policy on the issue.
In 2000, Assemblyman Sweeney was named one of the "100 Most Influential People" in the 20th century in the Town of Babylon.

State Propostition # 1
Amendment to Article 5, section 6 of the Constitution, in relation to additional civil service credit for members of the armed forces of the United States.The proposed amendment would eliminate the requirement that veterans who were disabled in the actual performance of duty in any war be receiving disability payments from the United States Veterans Administration in order to qualify for additional points on a civil service examination for appointment or promotion. Under the proposed amendment, the disability must only be certified to exist by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The proposed amendment would also update the reference to the "United States Veterans Administration" to instead refer to the "United States Department of Veterans Affairs" to reflect current federal government structure. Shall the proposed amendment be approved?

8th District
Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. was elected to the New York State Senate in 1998 to represent the 8th district. A lifelong Long Island resident and father of three, Fuschillo has been called a highly effective and well regarded public servant. He fights for families by sponsoring numerous child safety laws, securing millions in additional state aide for schools and making sure that children with
autism receive fair health care coverage. He is credited
with strengthening DWI laws, fighting breast cancer, banning
over-the-counter ephedra sales and helping to create jobs by developing the Broadhollow Bioscience Park at Farmingdale State College. In the Senate, he sits on the commerce, economic development, education, labor and health commitees and is the chairman on consumer protection. An active member of his community, Mr. Fuschillo is a member of Kiwanis, Italian Americans in Government and the Chamber of Commerce while voluntarily coaching his children's soccer team.
Peter King, R, C, I The 8th district covers parts of the Towns of Oyster Bay and Hempstead in Nassau County and part of the Town of Babylon in Suffolk County.
Longtime East Massapequa resident and civic leader Carol Gordon is running for the 8th Senate district on the Democratic line. For 25 years she served as a mental health clinic manager and patient advocate for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Currently, she is the vice president of the Breezy Point civic association and a member of Save the Jones Beach committee. Gordon is also 3rd vice president of the NAACP central Long Island Chapter and sits on the board of directors for North Amityville Community Economic Council.

3rd Congressional District
Congressman Peter King is serving his eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is the Ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee and also serves on the Financial Services Committee. He has been a leader in the ongoing effort to have Homeland security funding based on threat analysis and is a strong supporter of the war against international terrorism.
Graham Long, D, WF Prior to serving in Congress, he was elected
to three terms as Comproller of Nassau County.
Before seving in county government, he was a practicing attorney and civic leader. He began his political career in November, 1977 by winning election to the Hempstead Town Council. He is the author of three novels based on his political experience. A graduate of St. Francis College, Brooklyn and Notre Dame Law School, he has lived in Nassau County for almost 40 years. He and his wife Rosemary reside in Seaford and have two children and two grandchildren.
Graham Long is an economic development advisor in Nassau County and is making his first run for public office.Born and raised on Long Island, he has a background in suburban planning, historic preservation and government. As a regional planning specialist, he worked with Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi on his initiatives to reduce the tax burden, create senior and next-generation affordable housing and to strengthen the local economy. He also works to
preserve the environment and the history and
character of Long Island.
He holds a bachelor of arts degree in American Studies from George Washington
University. He is a resident of Franklin Square, and is a graduate of Locust Valley Central School District.
