A MEMORABLE OCCASION. Charles B. J. Snyder was one of the most prominent building superintendents and architects for the New York City School Systems. He designed and supervised the construction of 400 schools in the early 1900s and 270 are still standing. His voluminous windows in his buildings allow light and air throughout the schools, and the N.Y. Times, Saturday edition has a lengthy article on his work in the first section of the paper. A book about Mr. Snyder is being written by Jean Arrington. No date has been set for the publication. His great granddaughter, Cindy LaValle made arrangements for family members to make a bus tour visiting some of the beautiful schools that are still in use. His granddaughters, Libby Orr and the late Shirley Skeffington resided in the Village for many years. Libby was among the many family members making the tour together with Ted Skeffington from Houston and Molly Orr from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and other local relatives. Cindy La Valle said, "I wanted them to see his greatness."

BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER. Apples and Art at the Conklin House has always been a success, but this year's program featured more artists than ever - 76 artists and 120 pieces of art were hung with 200 pieces of children's art hung in the barn. Karen Petz and Larry Nye were responsible for the artwork and did a fabulous job. They worked for days getting every work of art hung just right. And the refreshments were a work of art too. We can thank Pat Podesta for that. There were wine and cheese and much more. Esther Klein harvested the grapes that had been growing in the backyard, and made jam, which everyone loved. Who knows? Maybe we'll become famous for our grape jam some day. The lawn on Saturday was full of goodies for the kids, all kinds of games. This was Margaret Rohl's hard work, and it certainly was worth it - the kids had a ball. Karen Petz was thrilled to have so many young people involved. Saw our Mayor Ralph Scordino, of course Larry Nye and Kevin Muldowny, Margaret Rohl and Karen Petz. Also on hand were many of the artists including Jane Kane, Elizabeth Karoly and one of the mainstays of the Conklin House, Ginny Eckelberry and many others. Sunday afternoon the winner of the raffle prize, a beautiful painting by Elizabeth Karoly, was won by Ms. Cleary.

IT MUST BE LOVE. It was an awesome 60th birthday

party Bob Bias threw for his wife, lovely Linda at the Long Island Yacht Club. Linda is the Lady Commodore of the Club and just wound down a successful summer season with the "right hand" club steward Doreen DeKliene. Bob invited every member, and all their children to the poolside event. Multiple toys were tossed in the pool with prizes for the most recovered and had yummy food and cake for all. Bob even rented a huge plastic pool with a long slide for all to enjoy. We wish many more happy years for Bob and Linda.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES to our lovely Village Historian Alice Zaruka who celebrated her big one, her 85th last Saturday. She enjoyed dinner with her family on Saturday night, and on Sunday, a trip to New York City which included attending a service at the Marble Collegiate Church and a Broadway show. We wish many, many more to this gal who works so hard for our Village.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Trustee Kevin Muldowny who scored a hole in one at our Village course on the fifth hole last Thursday. The course is a big plus for our Village and especially for those who enjoy playing the game.
