Meyers of West Islip celebrate 60th anniversary

Helen and Robert Meyer celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 12. They have lived in West Islip for more than 50 years.

Prior to retirement, Helen was employed as a secretary in the West Islip Public Schools. Bob worked

as a salesman, selling slicing machines and related equipment to a diverse clientele.

During World War II, Bob was a navigator on a B-17 and was assigned to the 8th Air Force. He saw action in Europe. As a young man, Bob enjoyed playing basketball, an activity he still pursues on a limited basis during the senior fitness games while wintering in Florida. Meyer, Helen To be

Both Helen and Bob enjoy golfing and gardening. They have two sons, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. They are charter members of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in West Islip and assisted in forming that congregation. The church will celebrate 50 years of service to the community in November. At the Sunday service on Sept. 13, Helen Helen & Robert and Bob were presented with a citation from the scanned Town of Islip honoring their 60 years of marriage.
