Longtime Babylon Village resident Frances E. Bailey (nee Darrell), who was a nurse at local hospitals and friend to many, died August 26, 2008. She was 92 years old and had lived first on Park Avenue, then Greenway South in the Village for more than 60 years.

"My mother was a woman before her time," said her daughter Eliza- beth. "She always worked and provided for us. She took care of everyone else before herself. She used to drive her friends to doctors appointments and anywhere else they needed to go. She outlived them all."

She was president of her graduating class at Brooklyn Nursing School and spent many years working for Bay Shore's Southside Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. Mrs. Bailey also worked as a substitute school nurse at Santapogue School in West Babylon. She retired in 1975, and continued to volunteer at Good Samaritan.

Mrs. Bailey was active with the West Suffolk Retired Teacher's Association, Long Island Blood Services and the Babylon Historical Society. She was honored to have received the Clara Barton Honor Award from the Red Cross for her volunteer work.

She leaves behind her children, Benjamin L. of Georgia and Elizabeth A. Segerdahl of Wantagh; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bailey reposed at the Claude R. Boyd Spencer Funeral Home, Babylon Village, on Aug. 28, 2008. Religious Services were held at the United Methodist Church of Babylon followed by private interment.

Donations in Mrs. Bailey's name can be sent to the United Methodist Church of Babylon, 21 James Street, Babylon NY 11702.
