Longtime Babylon Village resident and active community member Lorraine M. Jemison died August 21, 2008. She was 80 years old.

Born and raised in Rosedale, Queens, she later lived on Pilcher Street in Babylon Village for 45 years.

Mrs. Jemison was a longtime member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church where she taught CCD and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She also volunteered with Good Shepherd Hospice. For more than 15 years, she worked in the office of Continental Insurance in Melville.

According to her family she loved to knit and sew in her spare time.

She leaves behind her seven children: Carolyn Payne and her husband Vince of Bay Shore; Eileen Spina and her husband Joseph of Middletown, New York; Maureen Wassermann and her husband Glenn of Walden, New York; Thomas and his wife Barbara; Lorraine;Cathleen Gunes and her husband Osman; Christine Martin and her husband John, all of Babylon. Her 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years Albert, in 1996.

Mrs. Jemison reposed at Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 25, 2008 at St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Bay Shore, followed by interment in National Cemetery at Calverton.
