HEARD IT ON THE GRAPEVINE
IT WAS THE PERFECT SETTING FOR THE ANNUAL ROTARY PARTY. The venue was changed from La Grange where it was held for many years - but everyone raved about this year's party which was held at the Long Island Yacht Club. Rotarians Scott Lockwood, Aaron Stein and Gail Sullivan ran the show along with their fellow members - the food, music and many details were perfect and the party was a success, socially and financially. Tropical drinks were served in eeping with the theme for the party, the Endless Summer movie. And for a great follow up the next day Scott and Werner Zumbrunn delivered proceeds of $2,000 worth of items in three or four trucks to various churches in the community. The Rotary was so pleased with the Long Island Yacht Club that they have decided to hold their weekly luncheons at the club. "We're very pleased with our new home," said Scott.
IT WAS THEIR 60TH BIRTHDAY, and what better place to celebrate than their family's beautiful Point O' Woods summer home on Fire Island. The cousins: Janie Lawrence of Annapolis, Maryland; Kathy Hanaway of Hartford, Connecticut; Trinkie Anderson Bruecker of Rhode Island and Alline Thurlow of Seattle, Washington were joined by family members Merritt McCully Thurlow of Tacoma Park, Maryland; Betsey and Ken Shields, also of Tacoma Park; Nan Hanaway of Babylon Village and Tom Brueckner of Rhode Island, the cousins and their families. Everyone had a great time reminiscing about their childhood years spent in Babylon, and they hope to get together more often in future years in Point O' woods. It was a day to remember for everyone.
BABYLON'S LOSS IS OHIO'S GAIN. Nancy Newton, a longtime Babylon resident moved from here last week to Ohio to be near her son, and this community will really miss her. Nancy was married to the late Bob Newton - both were involved in a number of civic affairs. Nancy was a highly-respected teacher in North Babylon for many years. She was also a member of the Travelers Club and a number of other organizations. We wish her the very best in her new home.
GAS SALES ARE WAY DOWN Talked to Marty Goldberg who owns the Babylon Service Station located at 158 Little East Neck Rd., and Marty said while gas sales are down, repairs are up. Apparently people are resistant to the high price of gas, but they're keeping their old cars. Marty has been with the station for 40 years.
CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. and Mrs. Joshua Paticoff who welcomed their first child, Noah in August. Dr. Paticoff is associated with the Division of Pain Management at North Shore, L.I.J. Southside Hospital and Good Samaritan Medical Center.
ANOTHER ACCIDENT TO REPORT. This time it's Steven Ferraro who cut himself on a fence on his Oak Beach property and had to have 11 stitches in his leg. Not to worry - Steve was at his usual spot at the Sew Society meeting last Wednesday and he's feeling A.O.K. Welcome back Steve.

THE WEATHER JUST DIDN'T COOPERATE so the 29 boats racing in the 16th Lois H. Orr sailing race at the Babylon Yacht Club had to be called back after they reached the bridge last Sunday, and the race had to been canceled. The cocktail party for the skippers and their crews and friends was hosted by Libby Orr as usual in the Commodore's room at the club and even though the skippers were disappointed, they had a fine time at the party.
