Babylon High School student named Commended Student
Shown in the photo, Babylon Senior High School senior Victoria Barberich is congratulated by, left to right, Principal Robert Visbal, Guidance Counselor Suzanne Murphy, and Director of Guidance and School Counseling Barbara Restivo. After demonstrating exceptional academic promise and outstanding performance on the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), Babylon Senior High School senior Victoria Barberich has earned the title of a 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student. More than 1.5 million students took the qualifying exam last October and entered the National Merit Program, a nationwide competition for recognition and awards conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Barberich received a Letter of Commendation from the high school and the corporation. Although she will not continue in the 2009 competition for a National Merit Scholarship, being named a Commended Student notes that Victoria placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2009 competition.
To date, Barberich has completed three Advanced Placement (AP) courses and is enrolled in two AP classes and one honors course this year. She is an active member of the high school Women's Choir Chordettes, the National Art Honor Society, and Vice President of the school's National French Honor Society. While remaining undecided as to a major, Barberich aspires to attend college next fall and is leaning towards the English field.
