Owners of East Coast Orthotic and Prosthetic Corporation, which moved to Deer Park recently, talk about their work with local officials. A Deer Park resident has moved his multimillion dollar corporation, which manufactures orthotic and prosthetic devi ses for pat ient s throughout the New York, Tri-state area to the Town of Babylon. The firm, East Coast Orthotic & Prosthetic Corporation, owned by Larry Benenati of Deer Park and his brother Vincent of Dix Hills, now enjoys 24,000 square feet of executive offices, laboratory and clinic space at 75 Burt Ave., Deer Park. The company employs approximately 90 people, many of whom live in the Town of Babylon.

The 12-year-old company manufactures, distributes and services these devices and serves approximately 400 patients a week from on-site locations at many hospitals.

Approximately 60 percent of the company's patients suffer from diabetes. The rest either have a physical deformity or have been in an accident that left them with limited use or without a limb," said Vincent Benenati. Some are young veterans who have been injured serving their country in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The two brothers said that despite the difficulties these patients face, the future is bright.

"Given all the progress made in this field during the last six or seven years, orthotics and prosthetics will offer even greater performance quality in the next decade," said Larry Benenati. "Because of the accurate, precise prosthetics today that perform well, the amputee can lead an excellent quality of life. Sports, like golf, bowling, tennis and running are undertaken by amputees through prosthetics that offer a wide range of motion and ability."
