Irvin Smith, ex-Ccaptain of West Babylon Fire Department
      Lifelong West Babylon resident and 60-year West Babylon Fire Department member Irvin W. Smith died September 18, 2008. He was 82 years old and had served as captain in the department. Born and raised in a home on Little East Neck Road in West Babylon, he helped build his own home on Bermuda Road in 1951.

Ed Anderson, founder of Anderson Insurance Agency
      Longtime Babylon Village resident and business owner Edward A. Anderson Jr. died Aug. 5, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip of complications from diabetes. He was 81 years old. Born 1927 in Brooklyn to Edward and Teresa, he spent his life on Long Island, most of it in Babylon Village where he lived for more than 50 years. He served in the U.S.

Matteo Petrera, beloved West Babylon teacher
      Longtime North Massapequa resident and West Babylon teacher Matteo V. Petrera died September 17, 2008 in Maryland after an illness. The 73 year old, affectionately called "Mr. P" by his students, was a history teacher and guidance counselor in the high school for 30 years until he retired.
