Heard It On The Grapevine
WE'VE GOT GOOD NEWS ABOUT CONNIE HOERNEL. We've been writing about her for the past month, so our readers know that she fractured her wrist, was hospitalized, then went to Good Samaritan Hospital Nursing Home. She's recuperating at home now, working very hard on her therapy and doing very well. Drop her a line, but no visitors yet. We'll keep you up to date, and let you know about her progress.
HAPPY 50TH ANNIVERSARY TO A GREAT COUPLE. The Muchmores, Jane and Wayne of West Islip, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on a wonderful trip to Bermuda last week. The couple and their children: Susan Stewart, Michael Muchmore, Wendy Murphy and her husband Gregory, and their daughters Louise and Allison sailed on the Explorer of the Sea of the Royal Caribbean Line. Talked to Jane, and she had high praise for the ship, the food and the excellent service of the crew.
REMEMBER THE McELWEE FAMILY They lived here for many years on Sequams in West Islip. Jack McElwee and his wife, who now live in Essex, Connecticut, visited here last week with some of Jack's old friends, including Sara Lee and Gordie Baldwin. He looks great, and everyone was very happy to see him and his wife again after all these years.
MEMO TO CLEARWATER CINEMA IN BABYLON VILLAGE. The center piece of the marquee of the movie theatre is in very bad condition—it's broken, cracked, etc. and needs fixing A.S.A.P. It's been this way for some time, so we hope to see it in pristine condition real soon. Our whole Village looks so beautiful - let's keep it that way.
AND SPEAKING OF FIX UPS, several weeks ago we wrote about the "No turn on red" sign post on Little East Neck Road, which was being obscured by leaves on the adjoining tree. We want to compliment the Village and Gordon Canary of Senator Owen Johnson's office who saw to it that the branches were removed in a timely manner. Now you can read the sign very clearly.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BARBARA SCHLERF who celebrated her birthday with her family and friends at a party held at the Babylon Yacht Club several weeks ago. Many happy returns to one of the very best.
IT WAS OWEN O'NEILL'S BIRTHDAY last week, so he picked up the tab at the "Sewer Society" breakfast at the Delphi Diner. As our readers know, this is the custom at the weekly event. The group misses its fellow members Gene Turner and Will Zaruka who passed away recently.
FORMER RESIDENTS VISITING. Barbara and Tom Henry, who are former residents of our community and now live in Stuart, Florida, have been visiting with Tom's brother Patrick and other family members and friends.
CONGRATS GO TO STEVEN WARREN on his recent promotion in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, from Private to Private 1st Class. Steven is stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His parents are Nancy
and Steven Warren—
he's a June graduate of West
Babylon High School.
WE WERE SORRY TO LEARN that former Babylon resident Philip Bucking passed away last week. He had opened several successful businesses in Sag Harbor where he and his family moved, and was 67 years old.
