Voters on candidates' qualifications, not on their gender or race

2008-09-18 / Opinion

Dear Editor:

I was rather disappointed to see a apparent blatant endorsement of one presidential candidate posing as a valid letter to the editor in a recent issue of the Beacon. One would hope that such endorsements would be screened and placed in a proper location as an advertisement. To do otherwise cheapens the publication.

I would hope that it is commonly agreed that the choosing or voting for a presidential or vicepresidential candidate should be a carefully weighed consideration based on the perceived needs of the country and certainly not based on gender or ethnic considerations. Most of us got beyond that a long time ago.
