Suffolk Police break up burglary ring operating throughout Babylon Town
Suffolk County Police arrested six people today charging that they were part of a ring responsible for burglaries in western Suffolk County including locations in Copiague and Deer Park over the last two weeks.
The arrests were the direct result of an intensive, coordinated, investigative effort involving detectives from the First, Second, Third and Fourth Squads with assistance from the Criminal Intelligence Section and the Patrol Division.
The burglary ring was operated out of Wyandanch and struck several homes in Melville, Deer Park, Islip, Copiague and Smithtown. A search warrant was executed at 270 State Ave., Wyandanch, early this morning. Six people were arrested and a fully-loaded 9 MM handgun, two shotguns and proceeds from the burglaries were seized.
Arrested and charged with Burglary 1st degree and robbery 1st degree are:
• Tyrone Simpson, 18, of 100 E. Booker St., Wyandanch
•Andy Sukram, 18, of 353 Terrace Road, Bayport
•Bryan Bethea Jr., 21, of Cranberry Ave., Central Islip
•Benjamin Gains, 18, of 270 State Ave., Wyandanch
• Jamal Bishop, 19, of 555 Atlantic Ave., Copiague
Arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property is:
•Steven Brison, 18, 270 State Ave., Wyandanch
The homes burglarized were at the following locations:
•Wilmington Drive, Melville, on August 26 •Brennan Place, Deer Park, on August 26 •Roundtree Drive, Melville, on September 4 •St. Marks Lane, Islip, on September 8 •Lido Promenade West, Copiague, on September 8
•North Ingelore Court, Smithtown, on September 9
"As it quickly became apparent these break-ins were related, Police Commissioner Dormer and I made the resources available for an intensive investigation, which has resulted in the six arrests today," said Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy. "Suffolk remains the safest suburban county in the nation because of the fast and thorough efforts of our Police Department and its outstanding officers."
"The outstanding work of the police officers and detectives of the Suffolk County Police Department apprehending these individuals should be commended," said Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer. "Residents of Suffolk County can sleep easier tonight knowing these people are off the street."
The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected. The suspects were arraigned Sept. 13, at First District Court in Central Islip.
