DP man seriously injured in motorcycle crash

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that left a Deer Park motorcyclist with severe injuries. That incident occurred Mon., Sept. 8, at approximately 8:51 p.m.

Eyewitnesses told detectives that Shaun Hayes, 21, of Deer Park, was driving a 1999 Kawasaki motorcycle south in the right lane of Deer Park Avenue. The vehicle preceding his motorcycle started to make a right turn onto Grand Boulevard. Hayes went around the vehicle, entered the intersection and struck the right rear quarter panel of a Chevrolet Suburban. The Chevy was being driven by Terae C. Kearney, 35, north on Deer Park Avenue. Kearney told police that she had the green light and was turning left onto Grand Boulevard when the motorcycle struck her vehicle.

Two passengers in the Suburban were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. Brandon Sirleaf, 17, was treated and released for cuts sustained due to flying glass. Dantre Kearney, 12, was undergoing an MRI for complaints of back, neck and chest pain. Hayes was also taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. He is in critical condition suffering from severe head and body trauma.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Terae Kearney was issued traffic summonses for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 2nd Degree and unlicensed operator. Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to call the First Squad at 631- 854-8152.
