Mayor's Cup race coming
The Village of Babylon and the Long island Yacht Club announce the 24th annual sailing of the Mayor's Cup Race. The race will be held on Sun., Sept. 21. The Mayor's Cup Race is open to all auxiliary keel boat owners on the Great South bay. In order to include as many participants as possible, there will be three divisions. Divisions I is for boats with a handicap of less than 200. Divisions II is for boats with a handicap of 200 or more. Divisions II is for cruising boats, nonracing skippers, working sails and character boats.
The contestants will sail a nine-mile course from Babylon to Bay Shore and return. The finish line will be south of the Village.
Entry forms may be picked up at the Long Island Yacht Club, 307 Little East Neck Rd. South, Babylon. Complete racing instructions will be available the morning of the race from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the yacht club.
This annual yachting event attracts 25 to 30 boats per year. The Long Island Yacht Club docks and facilities will be available to participants on the day of the race.
