George M. Egan, a resident of Babylon for 54 years has traveled around the world since he retired 13 years ago, died July 16, 2008. He was 76.

He took many cruises, traveling to China, Africa and Australia.

"The only place he didn't go to was Bermuda," said his wife Eylene, who plans to travel to Bermuda this year in memory of her husband.

Mr. Egan worked as an oil burner mechanic and serviceman for Meehan Oil Company. After his retirement in 1995, he enjoyed going on cruises, and spending time with his family.

"We always tried to go on two cruises a year, and we have been on 30 cruises in 15 years," said his wife Eylene.

Mr. Egan also liked to "get away from it all," by renting a house on a lake in New Hampshire, and inviting his entire family every summer.

"My children always looked forward to going to New Hampshire," said his daughter Dannielle. "Every year around January, they would start asking 'when are we going to Grandpa's lake?'"

His wife Eylene said that her husband was a very family oriented man. "He was always there for us," added his daughter, Dannielle. "You could count on him, and he was always supportive."

In addition to his wife Eylene, and his daughter Dannielle and her husband Kevin Pszczolski of Islip, Mr. Egan was also survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Rick Gormley of Bivalve, Maryland; Jackie-Leigh Manuell and Gary of West Sayville, and Kelly and Jim Horne of Deer Park. His sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Bill Rode also survive him as do his grandchildren Heather, Christine, Jennifer, Frank, Lauren, Kevin, Kaitlin, Gary, Thomas, Becky, Shawn and Taylor.

Funeral Services were held at the Claude R. Boyd- Spencer Funeral Home in Babylon on Sun., July 20, 2008. A funeral mass was said July 21 at Our Lady Of Grace R.C. Church, West Babylon. Interment followed in North Babylon Cemetery.
