Heard It On The Grapevine
LOTS HAPPENING IN THE VILLAGE. Clothing store J. Della located on Main Street is rumored to be moving to the old Town and Country Paint Store location; Wilhelm's Bakery has closed and will reopen in a week or so as Torta Fina. We hear they have a store in Commack which has an excellent reputation. The owners live in the Village. We'll keep you informed.
IT'S SEVEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN NOW for the Pasches. Their newest is Peyton Pasch, daughter of Cornelia and Tony Pasch of Bridgehampton and Manhattan. Fran and Bob and a group of other family members were at the Christening which was held in Bridgehampton last Sunday. The Pasches have three children, six grandchildren and now seven great grandchildren.
SOME ENCHANTED EVENING. Between two horrendous days of thunder storms there was the perfect wedding day for lovely bride Jennifer Ramsey and handsome groom Alex Kennitznee. Jen is the daughter of John Ramsey Jr. and Mrs. Francine Georgia of Wantagh and one of John and Jean Ramsey's five grandchildren. Alex is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Kennedy, also of Wantagh. The beautiful Riviera Club in Massapequa was the setting for the outdoor sunset service. The happy couple honeymooned on two islands in Hawaii before coming hoem to their newly purchased home in Massapequa. Many happy landings.
AS USUAL THE AFTER GUARD PARTY AT THE BABYLON YACHT CLUB WAS A HUGE SUCCESS. Lots of longtime members were on hand - and former members traveled to Babylon to see their friends of many years. Among them were: Ev Seidenberg, Julian Davies and his sister Betsey, Libby Burns and her sister Barbara Auer, Susan Lawrence, and Jimmy and Gail Faas, and Jack Rogers. Many of the guests hadn't seen each other for years, and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful afternoon - the food was the best. Congrats to Joan and Bud St. John and their hardworking, efficient committee. Everyone agreed - it was the party of the year.
PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT drivers making right turns on red at the corner of Montauk Highway and Willow Street. Visibility is limited by the corner building, and drivers pull dangerously into Montauk Highway in order to see. By the way no right turn is allowed on Little East Neck South and Montauk Highway. The no right turn sign is obscured by tree branches on the side of the road. Don't know whose responsibility these intersections are, but hope they can be taken care of as soon as possible.
LOTS OF BABYLONIANS remember Helen Edgar Hicks (longtime Babylonian). Got a call from Pat Vanderveldt Wood, wife of Fred Wood, who reminded me to tell our readers that Ms. Hicks will be celebrating her 95h birthday at the Chapel Hill Retirement Community on the 16th of September. Helen would love to hear from some of her friends from the Babylon area. Pat and Fred have three daughters. They live in Marietta, Ohio and want to say "hi" to all of their Babylon friends. Helen's address is 700 Carolina Meadows, Apt. 335, Chapel Hill, NC 27517. Let's keep these cards and letters coming, and bring some cheer into our old friends' lives. Pat's number is 740-374-3339.
SEND GET WELL WISHES to a great gal and a good friend Connie Hoernel who's recuperating from wrist surgery after suffering a fall last week. We'll keep you posted on her progress.
