Copiague man charged with

grand larceny and filing false report

Yesterday, Suffolk County Police today arrested a Copiague man for filing a false report of robbery. Police gave this account:     Cesar Ramirez, 35, of 382 28th St., Copiague, a truck driver allegedly told police early on Tuesday that he was robbed at gunpoint. The driver of a 20-foot Harold-Levinson Associates Fuso box truck said he dropped off merchandise at one location and picked up receipts for payment, which included cash. He then drove to Deer Park Avenue and parked on the road north at James Street. He was moving the receipts to the back of the truck around 2:05 p.m. when a male approached him from behind, pressed a blunt object to his back and demanded the receipts in his hands. The robber then closed the door of the truck, which, automatically locked with Ramirez inside. He said he called Harold-Levinson Associates company from his cell phone inside the truck. Employees of the company were on the way to let him out when they decided to call police at 2:20 p.m. First Precinct police officers arrived and were able to unlock the driver after he slid the key under the door.      Ramirez admitted to detectives that he made up the story in order to pay his mortgage. Cash proceeds have been recovered by detectives from Ramirez’s home.     Major Case Investigations Unit detectives charged Ramirez with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Falsely Reporting an Incident 3rd Degree. He was held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and  appeared in First District Court in Central Islip for arraignment yesterday.
