Babylon Elementary is planting flowers and growing friendships

2008-08-07 / Schools/Sports

As an extension of their classroom science lessons and in celebration of Earth Day, kindergarten students from Jennifer Monteleone's and Kathy Reynolds' class from Babylon Elementary School teamed up with Ms. Necroto's third grade class from Babylon Memorial Grade School to learn how they can help take care of the Earth. In addition to the project geared towards Earth Day, the partnership between the two classes came as a result of the two sister schools' yearlong buddy program initiative.

With the help of their teachers, the students used funds collected by recycling cans to purchase flowers, potting soil, and flowerpots. Working in groups with their buddies, the students colorfully and creatively decorated the flowerpots and planted their posies. When the project was completed,

the students donated their newly potted plants to one of the town's local nursing homes. Shown in the photos, students in Jennifer Monteleone's and Kathy Reynolds' kindergarten class at Babylon Elementary School partnered with their buddies from Ms. Necroto's third-grade class to create colorful potted plants as part of their study on recycling. The students used monies collected by recycling cans to purchase the supplies for the project.
