Town's planning study is a good move; patience everyone

The Town of Oyster Bay enacted a measure this week that gives the Town six more months to analyze, review and assess building and code changes in Massapequa. The results of this study will be adopted Town wide when completed and are designed to ensure that the Town does not become over or poorly developed. Oyster Bay officials have taken a lot of criticism for the lengthy and thoughtful approach they are taking to this job. Some property owners have complained that the study, which has been underway for more than a year, has delayed their plans for adding to, or expanding their homes or businesses. In response, the Town has provided the opportunity for a grievance, and has set down special guidelines for these cases. In many instances, the property owners were given approvals to move forward, build or expand.

In the meantime, the Town continues in its comprehensive approach, with the goal of coming up with a plan that allows the Town to grow while at the same time maintain its unique suburban appeal. The study will surely result in better management of properties throughout the Town and a better lifestyle for everyone in the future.
