Phyllis Rossow, longtime Babylon resident
Babylon born and raised Phyllis S. Rossow, who loved living near the water, died after a ten-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis on June 5, 2008 in Marshfield, Massachusetts. She was 77 years old.
"Phyllis just loved the water and had fond memories of the South Shore of Long Island," said her husband of nearly 49 years, Al. "She also had many friends and stayed in touch with people she went to high school and college with. She was graceful and loving."
She was born to David P. and Alice Seaman in Babylon, and, when she was a young woman, loved to play field hockey and volleyball. According to her family, she was a scratch golfer, just like her dad, a longtime member of the Southward Ho Country Club.
After she graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, she met her future husband working at CBS in Manhattan. She married Alfred Rossow in June 1959 and moved with her family around the Metro New York area, southern New England, California and Boston as her husband developed a career in the food and beverage business.
She spent most of life caring for her family and home, but also enjoyed reading and gardening. She also was known for her tailgate parties with her friends at Harvard football games.
In addition to o her husband, Mrs. Rossow also leaves behind her sons: Bruce Allen of Bronxville, New York and Christopher Ward of Pleasantville, New York; and her granddaughter: Collette.
Burial was at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts after a private ceremony in Bigelow Chapel. A memorial service will be held by the family in the fall of 2008.
