2008-08-07 / Front Page

Lindenhurst resident and supporter, Charles Clyne came to Harding Avenue Elementary School to talk to students as a part of the Play it Safe, Play it Smart program from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island. The program focuses on safety issues in and out of the home. Topics include safety in the home, safety in the community, stranger awareness, and internet safety.

Clyne talked about safety issues in general, giving safety tips to the children such as being careful when out with friends. "Don't fall for the "I lost my Puppy" line, he advised. Clyne brought visuals for the students to observe, such as a fake million dollar bill and a police badge to show students objects that get their attention. He also talked about medications that look like candy.

Clyne addressed various internet safety topics, as well. He talked about IMing, games, chat boards, and MySpace with fourth-grade students.
