Woman fatally strikes husband with vehicle and flees the scene
Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating the death of a West Babylon man who was struck by a vehicle driven by his wife, who then fled out-of-state. Police gave this account: Maureen Hines, 45, was backing out of a parking spot at her apartment complex, Karis Manor Apartments, 730 South Railroad Ave., West Babylon, at 5:20 p.m. yesterday, July 30, when her husband, Dennis Durnin approached the driver side of the 2005 Chevrolet
TrailBlazer she was driving. Hines continued to back out and struck Durnin, knocking him to the ground. Hines fled before police and an ambulance responded. An extensive search was conducted for Hines and the TrailBlazer she fled in. On July 31 at 2:30 a.m., Suffolk County detectives were notified by the Jefferson Township Police Department in New Jersey that Hines was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and that the vehicle had been recovered. Durnin, 64, also of 730 South Railroad Ave., West Babylon, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is continuing. Detectives ask that anyone that may have witnessed the crash or had contact with Maureen Hines to call the First Squad 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
