Environmental mural project at Gilgo Beach
Shown in the photos are artists taking part in an environmentally themed mural project at Gilgo Beach July 12. Fifteen artists painted 1,200 square feet in eight hours. The event was organized by Thrust Clothing, a local surf clothing company (www.thrustclothing.com) and was sponsored by various local organizations including The Eastern Surfing Association, The Surfrider Foundation, SaveTheBeaches.org, and East End Wireless. The mural was painted while a surfing competition ran on the beach. The point of the mural was to stop the graffiti problem at the beach and to help raise environmental awareness.
