Wounded Warriors are greeted at Air Power Museum at Republic Airport this week.

Babylon welcomes Wounded Warriors

Babylon  residents and public officials gave a warm welcome to U.S. soldiers who were seriously injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Town hosted the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides funding and hope to thousands of American soldiers who have lost limbs or have been otherwise dramatically injured in the service to their country.

The event kicked off with a dinner at the Air Power Museum at Republic Airport on Thurs., Jan 24. On Friday morning they were again welcomed in a ceremony in front of Town Hall. Hundreds of residents attended.

Finally, the Warriors were joined by others to make the 25-mile bike trek through Babylon, Amityville and Massapequa and to the Wantagh Parkway and south to local beaches. Along the way, they were greeted by hundreds of Americans who wanted to offer their thanks and gratitude to the soldiers. Many held red, white and blue, balloons or waved flags. In Amityville, they were greeted with music and fanfare and in Massapequa, Boy Scouts lined up to salute the veterans as they sped by, many on bikes that have been specially designed for amputees.
