Here's a look at the Beacon school teams and how they faired in the playoffs this spring:

Babylon: The boys lacrosse team was eliminated from the playoffs in the Suffolk County Class C semifinals by No. 2 Glenn in a 15-10 loss. Matt Sutherland led No. 3 Babylon with five goals and an assist. The girls lacrosse team had the same semifinal troubles, losing to No. 1 Shoreham-Wading River, 16-4. Katie McGovern led No. 4 Babylon with two goals. The softball team played tough against a strong Hampton Bays squad, but lost in the Class B finals. The Lady Baymen opened up the series with a 7-4 win, then Babylon rallied back to tie it with a 3-2 win during the second game and best-of-three series with a 5-4 defeat in Game 3. Babylon's Tiana Giuliano got the loss on the mound.

Deer Park: No. 4 Hauppauge beat the No. 5 Lady Falcons, 9-5, in the Class B lacrosse quarterfinals. Monica White led Deer Park with two goals and an assist and goalie Courtney Cook had 19 saves.

Lindenhurst: The No. 6 Bulldogs were burned by the Flaming Arrows in the Class AA baseball playoffs when No. 7 Sachem beat them, 8-1, in the second round. Lindenhurst pitcher Tom Bammann got the loss. No. 2 West Islip defeated the sixth-ranked Lindenhurst boys lacrosse team from the Class A semifinals in a 7-3 loss. Doug Quednau, Joe Granata, and Scott Barrata each scored for the Bulldogs. It was a similar story for the eighth-ranked girls lacrosse team, which lost to No. 1 West Islip, 12-7. Nicole Moran led the Lady Bulldogs with three goals.

North Babylon: No. 10 Kings Park eliminated No. 11 North Babylon with a 3-1 win over the Bulldogs in the Class AA baseball playoffs. Vincent Aprano got the loss for North Babylon.

West Babylon: The Lady Eagles softball team beat Horseheads, 6-1, to win the New York State Class AA title. West Babylon beat West Islip 9-0 to win the Suffolk County Class AA title, beat Oceanside to win the Long Island Crown and beat Cicero, 3-0, in the state semifinals. (See cover story)

No. 16 East Islip beat No. 17 West Babylon, 5-4, in the Class AA baseball out bracket game. George Daw hit a homer in the game and Matt Senzamici got the loss.

West Islip: It was a typical busy spring for the West Islip athletic program. The baseball team lost to Massapequa, 8-2, in the Class AA Long Island title game. The boys lacrosse team lost to Syosset, 9-6, in the Long Island championship. West Babylon beat the softball team 9-0 in the county finals. Westhampton's Richard Sipala beat West Islip's Collin Verron, 6-2, 6-2, in first singles during the first round of the Suffolk tennis team championships.
