Longtime Copiague resident Irene Louise Davis, a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post #1015 in Copiague, died March 4, 2008. She was 82.

Born in Brooklyn, she moved to Copiague in 1950 and lived in the same home for 58 years.

In addition to her 45 year involvement with the American Legion, Mrs. Davis was also a volunteer at the Northport Veteran's Hospital. Once a month, she and her husband would throw parties to keep patient's spirits up. Mrs. Davis also worked at J.C. Penney at the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa for many years.

She leaves behind her husband, Robert E. a past Commander of the American Legion Post; her children: Robert and his wife Gerry of West Islip, Michael of Bay Shore, Glenn and his wife Michelle of Lindenhurst and Patricia Marchetti and her husband Michael of Lindenhurst; 11 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She reposed at the D'Andrea Brothers Funeral Home in Copiague on March 8 and 9, 2008. A Funeral Mass was said on March 10, 2008 at Our Lady of Assumption R.C. Church in Copiague. Interment followed at the Calverton National cemetery in Calverton.
