Suffolk County¹s First Precinct Police reported two serious incidents today, Friday, March 21. In one incident in North Amityville, police are investigating an armed robbery and motor vehicle crash. In the second incident, police are investigating an incident in which a man was shot in the arm while crossing a street in North Babylon.Police gave these accounts: On Thursday, March 20, at approximately 4:40 p.m., a man was selling sneakers from his 1997 Ford Explorer at the end of Chestnut Rd., North Amityville when he was confronted by five unknown men. At least one of the men was armed with a handgun. The men took cell phones, around fifty pairs of sneakers and a large amount of cash from the victim, identified later as Pedro Gonzalez, 53, of 3 South Bay Ave., Amityville. The men then fled on foot along a path to an adjacent street. Gonzalez drove his vehicle around the block and saw the men loading his merchandise into a 1999 Nissan sedan. He chased the men in his Ford and subsequently struck the Nissan, driven by one of the robbers. The other four robbers fled on foot. The impact caused the Nissan to crash into a 1995 Lincoln sedan, driven by Robert Hones, 63, of 1039 Nugent Ave., Bay Shore, who was driving northbound on New Highway. Hones suffered minor injuries from the crash. The driver of the Nissan fled on foot from the scene. The Nissan is owned by Daniel Maslivar, 18, of 21 Cedar Road, Amityville, who says he was with his accountant on Cedar Road when his car was stolen prior to the robbery. The sneakers have been recovered, however the cell phones and cash have not. In the second incident, Joel Foster, 20, of 35 Peary Street, West Babylon, was on foot on Straight Path and Fulton Street in North Babylon at approximately 9:10 p.m. Foster reported that as he was crossing Straight Path when a subject, identified by him only as a Black male, fired multiple shots at him. One large caliber bullet struck Foster in his right arm. Foster then ran home where his father drove him to Good Samaritan Hospital. Hospital personnel called the police. Foster was treated at the hospital and released. His assailant is described as a black male, approximately 25 years old, six feet tall and medium build. The suspect was wearing all black clothing.
