Ed Luksik, beloved Deer Park wrestling coach & teacher Former successful Deer Park High School wrestling coach and social studies teacher Ed Luksik, Jr. died November 24, 2007 of cancer at his home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was 67. "Ed was not only an inspiration as a coach and teacher but to the entire Deer Park community," said Jack Coughlin, former president of the Deer Park Board of Education. In 1962 Mr. Luksik moved from Pittsburgh to Long Island with his wife Angie and taught in Deer Park High School until his retirement in 1996. In 2002 they moved back to Pittsburgh. During his 30 years as wrestling coach, Deer Park High School won the 1995 Suffolk County championship and he was named Suffolk County coach of the year in 1975. He also coached in the Deer Park Kid Wrestling program and was an officer of the Deer Park Teacher's Association for many years. In 1999 he received a Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Oklahoma. More recently, the school district not only named its High School wrestling room after him but also started a Coach Ed Luksik Classic, wrestling tournament. In addition, Mr. Luksik ran a comic book store, World of Fantasy, for many years, until he started selling them online. He was also a volunteer with the Big Brothers program and served on their board. Mr. Luksik leaves behind his wife, Angie; his children: Cindi Iuliano of Holbrook, Patti Olsen of Flemington, New Jersey, Sandy Daly of Huntington, Laura of Huntington, Vikki Chombok of Reeders, Pennsylvania and Ed Luksik of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his father, Ed Luksik, Sr. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and five grandchildren.
He reposed at the DeBor Funeral Home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Nov. 26 and 27, 2007. A memorial service was held at the Mangano Funeral Home in Deer Park.
