Babylon's Junior Panthers football team heading to a championship; facing West Islip The Babylon Football Junior Panthers on the road faced Islip November 4 and continued to pounce their opponents. Babylon won at Islip 19-6, affording them to go to the Championship to face West Islip. The game started with an Islip drive. Islip drove downfield for two 1st downs and were held just short of another by the blitzing Babylon Defense. Babylon took over on their 40, starting their offensive drive up the middle with fullback Steven Schwitzer who plowed through for 7-yards and then for a first down. Quarterback Henry Brunjes then threw a 15-yard pass connecting with tight end James Marron and ran for several more yards. Halfback Zachary Carmody ran the power hole, cut to the inside of a great block by tight end Jack Conlon and ran for a 15-yard touchdown. Islip on its second drive was looking strong. With two great lead blocks, Islip's halfback ran down for a 55-yard touchdown. Babylon answered right back on its second drive. Brunjes started it off with a 15-yard pass to tight end Jack Conlon. On the ground, Babylon ran down field with Schwitzer, Carmody, and Marron. Babylon sent in halfback Thomas McHugh who went in motion taking a handoff and ran 14-yards and was tackled on the 1-yard line. Brunjes ran it in on a quarterback sneak, following his powerful center Alex Turri. Brunjes on the extra point faded back and again found Marron in the end zone. Islip started its 3rd drive with only a minute left in the half. With three receivers running deep, Islip threw a Hail Mary, which was foiled by the great coverage of safeties Carmody and McHugh. Islip attempted to run to the outside and defensive end Steven Cavalieri made a tackle in the backfield to end the half. At the start of the 3rd quarter, the Babylon offense clawed its way downfield using its powerful line Center Alex Turri, and guards John Botto and Matt Lauri paving the way to run up the middle with wedges and powers. With Babylon, 10-yards out, Brunjes fades back trying to find his tight end who is under heavy coverage, decides to tuck the ball and runs for the corner, scoring Babylon's third touchdown.
Islip's next drive started at the beginning of the 4th quarter and drove strong making it to the Babylon 30. Islip's luck ran out, however, when it began to tire and the Panther Defense went to work. The Babylon defense showing its power and speed began pushing Islip back. Lineman Jack Kresic and Corey Harberg force their way into the backfield and linebacker Christian Martino helped out with a tackle at the line of scrimmage. Defensive End Jack Faccibene forced the running back to the outside, allowing linebacker McHugh and Safety Carmody to make a tackle behind the line of scrimmage. Babylon then forced Islip back two down and 18, when Lineman John Botto forced the halfback to run back and defensive end Jack Conlon wrapped up. Islip, then off side, pushed back 3rd and 23. With Islip to the outside, linebacker Schwitzer hung on and was assisted by Safety's Carmody and Marron. On 4th down, Islip attempted another run and lineman Matt Lauri met the halfback at the line of scrimmage on a hard hit. Babylon took over on their 45, just 10 yards away from where Islip began its 4th quarter drive. Babylon with only two minutes left in the 4th, started their final drive, with halfbacks Chapey and Cavalieri who drove strong for 30 yards and a run out of regulation time.
