Rall Elementary School students get lesson on pigeons

Shown in the photo, Michael Crispo talks about his pigeons to fourth graders.
Lindenhurst physical education teacher, Michael Crispo brought in 20 of his "over 100" pigeons for special lessons on pigeons at the William Rall Elementary School. He talked about how he started his hobby with the influences of his father and grandfather. His grandfather raised pigeons in Italy.

He talked about various aspects of raising pigeons from breeding to feeding. He feeds the pigeons seeds, peas, and corn that he gets at the pigeon store. Crispo explained to the students that his pigeons take vitamins, baths, and play, just like children. "Pigeons are self-sufficient," explained Crispo. The pigeons wore ID bands, like dog tags to show ownership.

Michele Schor and Laura Raccomandato's fourth graders liked their lesson on identifying and graphing pigeons. There were five different colors of pigeons, including red and white, white, black and white, red, and yellow. The students were able to pet the various breeds, with the assistance of Crispo.
