Become a part of Babylon Town's history; take part in preservation project Town of Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone announced that the Town of Babylon will be initiating an Oral History Project: Preserving the History of Our Communities Through the Unique Memories of Our Residents. The Oral History Project will cover the years up through World War II. "The history of a community is rooted in the lives and memories of its residents," said Supervisor Bellone. "It is our desire to capture and record the memories of our Babylon residents through personal stories, photos and artifacts." Mary Cascone, a historical archivist for the Town of Babylon, is coordinating the collection of information from residents. Examples of the types of memories we are looking for include: •Descriptions of school life in the 1930s •Recollections of work life in the 1940s •Depictions of transportation and roads before modern Highways •Events and groups that you have been a part of •What drew your family to Babylon Town? The Oral History Project will document our history through interviews with residents to record memories of the Town of Babylon. Your help is needed to collect these memories.
If you have questions about the project and/or want the application and interview process explained, contact the Town Historian's Office at 631-893-2119 to learn more about how you can preserve Babylon Town history.
