Babylon Junior Panthers win fourth shutout

The Junior Panthers went on the road north to Huntington October 28th, 2007 and won their 4th shutout of the season.

Babylon started the game on defense, quickly pouncing Huntington's first drive. In the first play of the game, defensive end Henry Brunjes made a stop behind the line of scrimmage and was assisted by nose guard Corey Harberg and linebacker Christian Martino.

A couple of plays later, middle line Backer Dylan Dreher went head to head with Huntington's fullback, causing and recovering a fumble. Babylon quarterback Jack Conlon started the first drive with Halfbacks Derek Chapey and Thomas McHugh, who drove to the 50-yard line. Next play, Conlon pitched to McHugh and ran to the outside, breaking a tackle cutting inside and running for a 50-yard touchdown.

The Panther defense then took to the field, facing Huntington's second drive. On a middle blitz lineman Alex Turri blasted through the offensive center and linebacker Dylan Dreher chased the quarterback down, forcing him to get a pass off quickly for an incompletion.

On 3rd down and 11, Huntington ran a power to lineman Matt Lauri's side. He hit the running back hard, forcing a fumble, picking up the ball and running for 5-yards.

Babylon started their second offensive drive only 18-yards out after Lauri's recovery and run. Quarterback Henry Brunjes started the quick drive with fullback Lauri running up the middle 12-yards with two Huntington tacklers on his back. Brunjes ended the second drive when he faded back looking for tight end James Marron who was running to the corner. He caught the pass in the end zone for a touchdown.

Huntington down by 2 touchdowns started its 3rd offensive drive with only a few minutes left in the half. Huntington 4th down and 9, decided to go for it with seconds left in the half. Outside linebacker Thomas McHugh and Safety Zachary Carmody, followed the play to the outside. McHugh strips the ball and Carmody hit the running back and recovered the fumble, ending the second quarter.

Babylon started the third quarter with a long 58- yard drive. Quarterback Jack Conlon led the drive with fullbacks Kyle Buser, Steven Schwitzer and Halfbacks Derek Chapey and Zachary Carmody. Babylon 4th and 3 on its 6-yard line goes off sides for the first time in the game pushing them back 4th and 13. Babylon with nothing to loose, goes for it. Conlon hands the ball off to Carmody following lead blocker Buser. Carmody runs 12-yards and is brought down just short of the first down.

Huntington deep in its own territory started its offensive drive at the start of the 4th quarter. Huntington, down by 12, started driving downfield. Babylon, making adjustments along the way, put in its powerful Panther defense. Linebacker Kyle Buser blasted through with nose guard Turri and drove Huntington back 3 yards.

Next play, Babylon went on a full blitz blast through the offensive line with a huge gang tackle and another 5-yard loss. In the sea of black helmets peeling off the pile were linebackers Buser, McHugh, Martino, defensive end Brunjes, safety's Carmody, Marron and the lineman who led the attack Joe Ponzone.

Huntington 3rd down and 18 running out of time sent out two receivers deep. The quarterback faded back, faked to the outside and threw a bomb up the middle which was intercepted by safety Carmody and returned back to the Babylon 18. Quarterback Brunjes sent fullback Punzone on a middle wedge, using powerful lineman John Botto to lead the attack. With another two wedges led by Lineman Botto, fullback Turri ran for a 5-yard gain and a 7-yard touchdown.

Huntington took to the field with under a minute left for its last offensive drive. The Babylon defense ends the game with defensive ends Jack Conlon and Jack Faccibene crashing in on the quarterback, forcing a quick pitch, and lineman Jack Kresic forcing the fumble, ending the game.
