Babylon Fire Department visits grade school
During the programs, students learned about the need for a predetermined escape plan in the event of a fire, the importance of household smoke detectors, and the different pieces of equipment the firefighters wear when entering a burning building, from local Babylon Fire Department firefighters. In addition to the informative programs, the students were treated to a puppet show that worked to reinforce the messages discussed during in-class visits.
At the end of the educational program, the firefighters encouraged the students to participate in the department's open house. "Fire prevention is something that is imperative to teach students," stated Babylon Fire Chief Tony Davida. "The information that the students learn during Fire Safety month is something that could one day save their lives."
