Sumpwams Garden Club holds annual luncheon

The 51st year of the Sumpwams Garden Club was celebrated at the annual luncheon held on Nov. 7 at Captain Bills in Bay Shore. The theme was Rosemary and Thyme. The co-chairpersons were Patricia Kapps and Jean Leun. Members and guests were treated to a presentation by Karen Hall, who created five flower arrangements. The members found the talk to be both interesting and informative.

The Garden Club has many activities in addition to gardening and design interests and awards. Ongoing projects are providing flowers monthly for the S.O.S. kitchen serving dinners weekly at the First Presbyterian Church, Sagtikos Manor projects and garden at the park and Garden Therapy at the Veterans Home in Stony Brook. On Dec. 5, a committee will work with veterans to create a craft for their room for the holidays.

Family and friends recently remembered Nina Gibbia and her years both as president and active member for many years of Sumpwams Garden Club with a memorial plaque at the West Islip Library where the club will be meeting starting in Jan. 2008. The meetings are open to the public and new members are always welcome. For information, call 631- 422-2901.
