Helping Hands annual Toy Drive

The Helping Hands has announced that its toy drive will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 340 Union Blvd., West Islip. Everyone is welcome to help. Please bring your own scissors and tape.

Having the drive held after school offers an opportunity for our children to drop off their own donations and see how we come together for the sake of all the precious underprivileged children throughout Suffolk County.

Last year the group collected well over 6,000 toys from our children. Every last toy ended up in the arms of a child. Local charities once again are forecasting donation lows for this holiday season. Some suggestions are to dangle a Happy Meal toy from a stuffed animal's neck. Fill Backpacks, lunch boxes or gift bags with assorted goodies of the same theme. Costume, sterling jewelry, and Bath and Body samples make great goody bags for the older girls. Often they are overlooked. Candy cane, trash bag, decorated lunch bags, and ribbon donations are graciously accepted. Slippers and socks are desperately needed. Holiday outfits are welcome.
