Babylon's NAHS enter art competitions

While the school year has only just begun, the students in Babylon Junior-Senior High School's National Art Honor Society (NAHS) are already immersed in art competitions and shows. Under the direction of NAHS advisor Cheryl Schweider, the students have entered three shows in the first two months of school, during which several student pieces will be featured.

Local community members were able to view outstanding artistic talents of the high school students during the Apples and Arts Festival held at the Conklin House on Deer Park Ave in Babylon Village the second weekend in October. The student work hung in the barn, while adult work from Village residents hung in the Conklin House.

At the state level, six students' work will prominently be featured during the New York State School Board (NYSSBA) Conference in New York City and at the New York State Conference of School Superintendents in Saratoga.

At the NYSSBA Conference the work will be featured in the exhibit area on the second floor of the Sheraton Hotel on Seventh Avenue. The students, seniors Paulina Giampietro, Gabriella Wilkens, and Jessica O'Brien will also have the chance to see their pieces when they attend a special reception in their honor, held during the conference.

NYSCOSS, which is held annually and wellattended by superintendents throughout New York State, will feature work from 73 school districts in addition to Babylon. Seniors Tessa Stoecker, John Vignieri, and sophomore Mateo Leser will have their works admired by hundreds of attendees.
