The Beacon's Athletic Notebook

is as of Nov. 11. Here's a look at how the local school's athletic programs did this fall:

Amityville: See story, page 1

Babylon:

The girl's soccer team lost, 2-1, to No. 1 Mattituck in the Class B semifinals. Krystina Puleo scored the only goals for the Lady Panthers in the playoffs. She also scored in Babylon's, 1-0, win over Southold/ Greenport in the Class B outbracket game.

Copiague:

The girl's soccer team was the most successful program of the Eagle's athletic program this fall. They finished 12-3 in League VIII and had big wins over numerous teams this season.

Deer Park:

Most of Deer Park's teams were middle of the pack squads this fall. Their girl's volleyball team finished 9-4 overall in League IV, but lost to No. 7 West Islip in the first round of the Class AA playoffs.

Lindenhurst:

After finishing 11-5 in Division II in the regular season, the Lady Bull Dogs' field hockey team earned the No. 5 seed in the Class A playoffs but were upset by No. 12 Sachem North, 2-1, in the first round. The girl's soccer team lost to No. 2 North Babylon in the first round of the Class AA playoffs.

North Babylon:

The field hockey team lost, 1-0, to No. 6 Bay Shore in the first round of the Class A playoffs. They finished 8-7-1 this year in Division II.

West Babylon:

The boy's soccer team grabbed the sixth seed in the Suffolk County Class AA tournament, but was upset by No. 11 Ward Melville, 1-0. They finished in second place in League IV with an 11-5 overall record.

The girl's soccer team finished the regular season 6-8 overall and locked up the 16th and final seed of the Class AA playoffs, but made an early exit at the hands of No. 1 Ward Melville. They made it close, however, and lost, 3-2, in double overtime.

West Islip:

The Lion's boys soccer team had the No. 2 seed and was also upset in the Class AA tournament. They lost in the title game to No.4 Half Hollow Hills West, 1-0, and finished 19- 2 as the League III champs. This was Hills West's first county title since 1979.

The field hockey team lost, 3-0, to Ward Melville in the Class A semifinals.

The football team played East Islip in the Suffolk Division II title game…results will be in the next notebook.
