Ron Sterckx, award-winning ABC photojournalist
For 36 years Mr. Sterckx worked for the American Broad- casting Company and was among the pioneers that took film to the next step of videotape. In 2003 he retired after working for ABC's Wide World of Sports and WABC Eyewitness News while he traveled the world. According to those who knew him, he covered stories that ranged from a trip to China with former National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger to local news in Riverhead. Mr. Sterckx lived on Greenway Terrace in the Village for more than 40 years before retiring to Florida in 2003. A former member of the Babylon Yacht Club, he loved spending weekends in his boat on the Great South Bay. He is survived by his brother Robin and sister in-law Heather; his nieces Candice Sterckx and Rachel Carlson and her husband Mark. He is also survived by grand nieces Kayla and Corinne Carlson and a grand nephew Jack Carlson.
A private cremation was held in Cape Coral, Florida.
