Circle Gallery to present slide show November 14 Frank Greenhalgh presented a workshop on digital photograph at the Circle Gallery on November 7. Digital photography is the "standard," says Greenhalgh. But he adds that while many stores will process and print photos, they will not custom crop, sharpen or make color corrections. His presentation covered using the computer to access photos taken with a digital camera, then how to edit pictures with tips on achieving the best composition and features. Color correction, cropping and resizing using programs such as Photoshop and iPhoto were also discussed. Greenhalgh, an Amityville resident, is a retired engineer who has extensively studied photography and computer graphics with the emphasis on do-it-yourself. Author and woodworker Roger Schroeder returns to the Circle Gallery on Wednesday, November 14 at 7 pm to present a slide show entitled "Portrait of an Artist." The subject, Armand LaMontagne, is recognized as one of the most versatile and talented artists of the 20th century. Sculptor, portrait and landscape painter, period furniture maker and period house builder, not to mention master gardener, LaMontagne's work is featured in museums and private collections throughout the country. Schroeder shares many anecdotes surrounding the artist, including how a snub at a major museum led to one of the greatest antiques forgeries of the last century. And his success as a sculptor is unmatched. If you have visited the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, you have seen firsthand his sculptures that look as if they can walk off their pedestals. Schroeder will finish the program with a discussion of how LaMontagne turns wood into ultrarealistic portraits. An Amityville resident, Schroeder has traveled extensively to write about and photograph the work of artists and craftspeople throughout North America.
The Circle Gallery is located at 186 Broadway, next to Vittorio's Restaurant. For more information on the group and its programs, contact Irene at 631-598-2182 or Andriani at 631-691-8575. Or check out Calendar of Events at Amityville.com.
