Helen Dugan, former West Babylon teacher Helen Mulford Dugan, who taught the fourth grade in the West Babylon School District for more than 20 years, died from injuries sustained in a car accident in North Carolina on April 19, 2007. She was 90 years old, and had been in the District from the late 1950s to the late 70s. Before West Babylon, she spent three years teaching in the Amityville School District. Born in Newark, New Jersey, she lived in Amsterdam and Albany, New York before moving to Babylon Village in 1956 with her husband, Thomas, who was a distant cousin to then Village Mayor Don Conroy. They moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1986. Mrs. Dugan leaves behind her children: Deborah D. Burden of Southhampton, Barbara D. Giera of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Andrew T. of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas M. A memorial service was held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Amsterdam, New York on July 27, 2007.
